KXCI 2010 Board Election Results and New Officers

The votes are in and we're proud to announce the results of the 2010 KXCI Board of Directors election.

Re-elected to the KXCI Board for full, 3-year terms are Cecily Crebbs and Keith Kanzler. They will be joined on the board by Katie Rogerson (3-year term) and Vance Sanders (1-year term).

At the annual meeting on June 17th, board members elected the four officer positions, each for a one-year term. We would like to congratulate those officers: Mary Beth Haralovich, President; Jamie Manser, Vice President; Susan Banes, Treasurer; and Cecily Crebbs, Secretary.

We would like to acknowledge the contributions of two departing board members, Hank Childers, who served for five years on the board (including three years as president) and Melanie Morrison, who served four years on the board (including most recently as our vice president). The entire KXCI family owes Hank and Melanie a debt of gratitude for their leadership.

Concert Review: Old Blind Dogs, June 5th

Only three of the four Dogs were present at the Old Blind Dogs concert on Saturday night at the Temple of Music and Art. It certainly didn’t dull the performance or the 450+ audience’s response. Jonny Hardie on violin and guitar, Aaron Jones on bouzouki and guitar and Ali Hutton on uillean pipes and whistles easily put out 120% of effort to make up for the loss of Fraser Stone, the group’s outstanding percussionist, who was still in Scotland awaiting a biopsy appointment. Here’s hoping good health will prevail and he’ll be able to join the group on their continuing U.S. tour very soon.

If you’ve never been to one of their shows, the Old Blind Dogs never disappoint with their rocking rhythms and new interpretations of traditional and original music that includes songs, jigs, and reels. Aaron Jones’ vocals were clear and especially poignant on tunes like Saints and Sinners and Tae the Beggin’ I Will Go. Jonny picked up on harmony vocals, and also sang lead on the older tunes, Bedlam Boys and MacPherson’s Rant. The rousing rendition of The Wild Rumpus prompted spontaneous eruptions of clapping and whistles from the crowd as Ali took off on the pipes. A new release from Compass Records and not yet available in stores, Wherever You May Be, was also featured. Luckily, it was sold at the show and it sure sounds like another winner.

It’s such a pleasure to experience a performance like this one where the musicians give their all and it’s so inspiring to see the great passion they continue to have for the music they play. All in all, a fabulous show.

KXCI Auction Thank You

The KXCI online "Start Your Summer" auction closed Monday afternoon with a grand total of $4858.00 raised in support of Community Radio!

We want to thank the wonderful volunteers (Beth, Kathryn, and Rachel) who helped solicit and/or pick up the 180+ items that were donated by so many different and great local businesses, non-profits, authors and artists. The auction could not have been so successful without this team effort and without the generous support of our community.

And of course we want to thank all 71 bidders who placed winning bids, and the many more people who placed non-winning bids.

The next online auction will be our annual pre-holiday event in December.
