Happy Birthday Gladys Knight / One Cup of Java Challenge

Wednesday's One Cup of Java Challenge question asks you to name the famous musician celebrating her 64th birthday today. She’s won Grammys for R&B, pop and gospel music and has recorded jazz and disco albums as well. Most of her most famous recordings are from the late 60s and 70s when she performed with a group comprised of her family; those relatives have all since retired and we haven’t heard a “pip” out of them in years although she still puts out an album every few years. Your One Cup question this morning – name this 64 year old birthday girl, whose most famous hit originally was about a late night flight to Houston.

Answer: Gladys Knight

Bonus Blog Trivia: This was written and originally recorded by Jim Weatherly as "Midnight Plane To Houston." The name was changed (with Weatherly's OK) when Cissy Houston (Whitney's mom, Dionne Warwick's cousin) recorded it. Weatherly agreed to alter the title only if the rest of the lyrics were not changed.
