KXCI: Powering Down For Safety

Friday Update: We are powering down at approximately 9am, should be back to full power around dusk. -KXCI

KXCI's transmitter on Mount Bigelow is a co-located site with many other broadcast stations. One of those stations, KUAT-TV, is currently doing repair work on their digital transmitter that was damaged by a lightning strike.

For safety reasons, all other stations are required to lower power on their transmitter, or in some cases turn off their equipment.

Beginning around 12:30pm Wednesday, KXCI will be operating at about 20% power during this repair work.

Power should return to normal when work ends around dusk.

Subsequent reduced power days will be determined as work on the KUAT equipment continues.

Free webstreaming at KXCI.org is not impacted.

Thank you for your understanding.

You know, some stations stream at more than one rate. KXCI's stream is too much for slow my dial-up. Not sure how many of us are affected by this, but you might give it some thought.
