Three Bogart Films Highlight June Film Offerings
If you're as tired as we are of the "SUMMER BLOCKBUSTER PART 3: THIS TIME IT'S BORING" films playing at your local multi-perplex, please note that you DO have options.
In addition to the regular offerings at the Loft Cinema (www.loftcinema.com), two summer film series are returning to downtown.
Cinema La Placita Cinema is an outdoor film series that screens classic films in the courtyard at La Placita in downtown Tucson. Films begin at 7:30pm each Thursday evening. For a $3 suggested donation you can see:
(June 7) Three Days of the Condor, starring Robert Redford and Faye Dunaway. A classic spy thriller directed by Sydney Pollack.
(June 14) Sabrina. Audrey Hepburn has to choose between Humphrey Bogart and William Holden in Billy Wilder's classic romantic comedy.
(June 21) Key Largo. Confrontation and hurricanes play out in the Florida Keys as Bogart and Edward G. Robinson match wits; this was also the final Bogart/Lauren Bacall film.
(June 28) Boys on the Side. Whoopi Goldberg, Mary-Louise Parker and Drew Barrymore in a film that celebrates friendship and overcoming adversity. Features plenty of shots from in and around Tucson. Matthew McConaughey plays Tucson police office "Abe Lincoln."
If you prefer your films indoors, there aren't many "indoors" more beautiful than the Fox Tucson Theatre. Upcoming films in their "Summer Movies at the Fox" film series on Saturdays (3:30 and 7:30pm) include:
(June 9) Grease - Summer lovin' with John Travolta, Olivia Newton-John and an incredible soundtrack.
(June 16) Casablanca - You can never have too much Bogart.
(June 30) Breakfast at Tiffany's - Audrey Hepburn's Holly Golightly is sexy and sophisticated in public, but vulnerable and neurotic in private with a pre-"A-Team" George Peppard. Originally meant to star Marilyn Monroe!
