A Post On Postage / One Cup of Java Challenge

Today’s One Cup of Java Challenge: Name the person who was represented on the very first adhesive postage stamp issued, way back in 1840. A couple of clues – a woman who was alive to see herself on that stamp in 1840, she lived into the 20th century. She’s been referenced in many songs, most notably one by The Kinks and two by Leonard Cohen. Your One Cup question again this morning – to name the first person to appear on an adhesive postage stamp.

One Cup Answer: Queen Victoria, who was on "Penny Black," the first adhesive stamp, issued in Great Britian and pictured here.
