Throughout the month of February, KXCI will offer an African-American Music Showcase each Wednesday afternoon from 5 to 6pm, each week spotlighting the contributions of an amazing black musician.
We've already shared Fats Waller and Buddy Guy with you. Tune in this coming week (February 21st) for a very different special, featuring the incredible Aaron Neville.
Rather than focus on Aaron's music, this special, called "Aaron Neville: Bring On The Soul," will feature Aaron performing classic songs by the all-time great R&B artists - Curtis Mayfield, Marvin Gaye, Otis Redding, Sam Cooke, Bill Withers, Al Green and more - who have inspired Aaron throughout his own legendary career.
"Singing them," Aaron says, "especially in the aftermath of Katrina, was a deeply spiritual experience. They helped me get through. They gave me hope. And for me, music has always been about hope."
Catch this latest installment in KXCI's African-American Music Showcase this Wednesday, February 21st, from 5 to 6pm, only on YOUR Community Radio 91.3FM. And be sure to tune in on February 28th as we wrap up our celebration of Black History Month with "Chuck Berry: Hail! Hail! The King of Rock & Roll."
