Great Cover-Up benefits Brewster Center

The Great Cover-Up hits Club Congress this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday (December 7th-9th) in a benefit for the Brewster Center. Now in it's 10th year, the event brings nearly 30 local bands to the stage to perform covers of their favorite national artists. To date, nearly $40,000 has been raised for the Brewster Center, which provides services and shelter for victims of domestic violence.

The event starts at 8pm each night, and every band has put in countless hours of time perfecting their mockups, so be sure to get there early each night and stay late to catch all the fine performances. Each set will be 20 minutes, and to smooth the transition between bands, backline equipment has been generously donated by Rainbow Guitars and Sticks-n-Strings.

Here's a random list of the artists that will be covered this year: Sweet, Eddie Money, The Time, My Bloody Valentine, Billy Idol, Marilyn Manson, Pavement, The Monkees, AC/DC, Eric Clapton, The White Stripes, Thin Lizzy, Siouxie and the Banshees, Jay-Z, Nico, Reservoir Dogs Soundtrack, Sade', Bjork, The Zombies, Bad Company, Tower of Power, Shonen Knife, Buzzcocks, Wilco, Modest Mouse, and REO Speedwagon.

And here's a list of local bands that will be covering those artists: Provocative Whites, Latino Solido, The Swim, Infernal Racket, Distortionists, The Sound Guys, Feed, 5ft2, Found Dead on the Phone, Love Mound, Lagoon, Luca, Ernie & the Hotrods, The Splitters, Music Video, Al Perry, Los Sombis, Great American Tragedy, Fukuisan Go!, Spacefish, Bombs for the Bored, Therapists, Sabatino Killers, Ghost Lodge, Redlands, and Saint Rorschach.

Who will be covering who? That's all part of the fun! You'll just have to show up and find out! Some bands choose to do dead-on performances, while others put their own stylistic spin on the music, or even hilarious spoofs of their selected artist. But all performances are highly entertaining, and it's all for a very worthwhile cause.
