Music Director's Weekly Spotlight

Hey there,
KXCI Music Director weekly update spotlighting shows coming to town and some cool new releases. One release/show combination from a cool new band in town this week.
Take care,
-duncan

This week we spotlight The Aggrolites. They have a new self titled album on Hell Cat records and are coming to Club Congress on Wednesday August 9th. I love old school reggae, ska and rock steady, the classic sounds of Jamaica from the mid 60s to the mid 70s. Artists like the Skatalites, the Ethiopians, the Wailers, the Upsetters, and Toots and the Maytals. The Aggrolites are a new band from California that pay homage to these sounds and do it so well. Their album of all original songs sound like they could come right out of late 60s Jamaica, but with a different edge that must come from a new generation and the influence that implies. They call their music dirty reggae, a new sound built on those classics. Make no mistake though, this is no fourth wave of ska, nor second or third wave for that matter. This sounds like a band that truly loves the music it draws inspiration from and would rather carry on that tradition, than just rip it off. If you dig the sounds of ska, reggae and rock steady, this show is not to be missed. With openers Bonegun and SKITN, Tucsons own purveyors of island sounds, it should be a great dance party and all ages to boot!
